Uji Hojicha

$15.99

Uji Hojicha is Fossa Chocolate's warmest, most comforting bar — a translation of Japan's beloved roasted green tea tradition into craft chocolate form.

Hojicha (焙じ茶) originated in Kyoto — specifically in the Uji region, Japan's premier tea-growing area — as a way of using lower-grade green tea stems and leaves that had been passed over for higher-grade preparations. Roasting the tea at high temperatures browns it, mellows its bitterness, and develops a distinctly nutty, toasty, caramel-like aroma that is entirely different from unroasted green teas. The resulting chestnut-brown colour is alluring, and the flavour — warm, comforting, lightly smoky — has made hojicha a favourite across Asia and increasingly worldwide.

Fossa uses this tea in a 53% milk chocolate made with organic Ugandan Semuliki Forest cacao — an origin with its own warm fruit character that complements the hojicha beautifully. The result is a bar that is genuinely comforting and deeply aromatic.
